The ABIHM focuses on education and support of physicians on their journey toward personal and professional balance. We strive to provide science-based, heart-felt knowledge of holistic medicine while also encouraging personal development of our diplomates.
The Certification Process for Diplomate Status for the ABIHM
The certification and maintenance of certification process is a multi-layered experience involving education, and personal growth and transformation. This is divided into three phases:
Phase one: Candidate status
- As a Diplomate status candidate, you will be introduced to a mentor from our Diplomate pool. This relationship is created to support your growth and development as an integrative holistic physician and to prepare you for the examination and review course.
- As a candidate, you will be asked to write a journey paper describing your journey and growth of interest in IHM.
- A syllabus will be provided to you and audio CDs of lectures are available to you to support your learning in IHM.
Phase two: Review course and examination
- You will attend the annual review course, a comprehensive overview of IHM
- You will take the written ABIHM examination
Phase Three: Maintenance and growth
- You will attend a variety (at your choice) of CME based course work in IHM. This will increase your knowledge in the integrative arena.
- You will attend a variety (at your choice) of self growth processes which will enhance you capacity to approach patients in a holistic fashion.
- You will have home study modules with the ABIHM
